This romantic, impressionist-inspired wedding shoot in Provence was featured on The White Wren and captured the essence of an elegant, sun-drenched day. Exquisite photography, soft pastels, and the charm of a perfect Provençal venue were all brought to life in this remarkable editorial, filled with luxurious, artisanal details.

When photographer Kristin Sautter and stylist/planner Ajna of Oui, Mon Coeur offered me complete artistic freedom to create the stationery for this shoot, I took the opportunity to weave intricate, handcrafted elements into every piece. The result was a dreamy blend of dappled paints, delicate white wax seals, fine illustrations, and a selection of the most beautiful, textured papers. The entire suite was designed to evoke a sense of light, softness, and romance, making each piece a true work of art.

The Invitation

For the main invitation, I used soft, pastel hues and layered vellum over handmade paper to create a gentle, light-filled design. The handmade paper had a soft, fluffy texture, and I applied acrylic and watercolour paints in dappled strokes to give the impression of “light leaking” across the background. The vellum overlay added an airy, ethereal quality, making the invitation feel weightless and full of movement.

To further honour Renoir, I used a print of his work La Prairie (1880) as the envelope liner, subtly nodding to the inspiration behind the suite.

Details & Information Cards: A Nod to Provence

The details card was printed on off-white handmade paper, adorned with a painting inspired by the rustic duck egg-toned shutters at Bastide de Toursainte, the enchanting venue for the shoot. For the information card, I chose to paint delicate florals in soft pinks, yellows, greens, and blues, with the fonts kept clean and minimal to allow the artwork to shine. These small but important touches tied the stationery seamlessly to the Provençal setting, enhancing its natural elegance.

Place Cards & Menus: Handmade Touches & Organic Elegance

The place cards were a labour of love, painted in the same dappled acrylic and watercolour style as the invitations, using thick, soft handmade paper. The names were elegantly calligraphed in white ink on vellum strips, tied with delicate white silk ribbons, which added a refined and romantic touch.

For the menus, I selected thin, recycled Islamic Sunn hemp paper with beautifully organic edges. The pale yellow hue of the paper, paired with minimalist fonts, created a simple yet sophisticated backdrop. I applied watered-down white acrylic to the menus with a light, whimsical touch, as if Renoir himself had brushed against them while painting, adding to their artistic charm.

The entire invitation suite was wrapped in the same recycled Sunn hemp paper, adorned with paint daubs and flecks, echoing the rest of the suite’s light, impressionist aesthetic. The wrap was sealed with a white wax foliage stamp atop a silk ribbon band, adding a final touch of refinement and artistry.

Unique Finishing Touches: Scroll Seating Plan

Planner and designer Ajna of Oui, Mon Coeur styled the champagne drinks table with antique crystal champagne coupes and a stunning silver champagne bowl. I created delicate scrolls to wrap around the stems of the champagne coupes, which served as the seating plan.

The scrolls were crafted from some of my used painting canvas—complete with soft marks of paint—which added a wonderfully textured, artistic element. Each scroll was finished with pastel-coloured edges to match the rest of the stationery suite, and names and table numbers were calligraphed in a soft mid-blue.
